our vision
We have a vision of a people who recognise that Jesus Christ is LORD. A people who are passionate in their love for Jesus, a passion that flows out into all areas of their lives, that is lived out in the body of Christ and their desire to see His Kingdom come.
We have a vision of a people who are in Christ. A people drenched in His love. Who are filled with the spirit of servant-hood towards their brothers and sisters in Christ and their local community. Who base their relationships on co-operation rather than competition.
We have a vision of a people who don't hold to the values of this world but have been transformed in their thinking, living to please God and not themselves. A people who realise that the riches this world has to offer are nothing compared with knowing The Lord Jesus.
We have a vision of a people who are the worshipping Church of Jesus Christ. We are members of the 'Together for the Harvest' group of Churches on Merseyside and subscribe to their vision. That every man women and child should repeatedly have the opportunity to hear, understand and to accept or reject the Good News of Jesus Christ.
our beliefs
We believe in one God, Creator of Heaven and earth, eternally existent in Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit: each being wholly God, both personal and divine: each having divine power and glory and each having part in all that was created.
We believe that God the Father is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent and immutable, that He planned our salvation and sent His Son to perform the work of redemption.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, that He might reveal God to sinful men and redeem them.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice. Our resurrection was made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended bodily into Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God the Father, where as our High Priest, He fulfils the ministry of Mediator, Intercessor and High Priest. We believe in His Second Coming, which will be personal, visible and glorious.
We believe the Holy Spirit is divine, possessing all the attributes of Deity, and in essence He is equally God with the Father and Son. We believe the Holy Spirit is the author of the Sacred Scriptures.
We believe the Ministry of the Holy Spirit includes teaching and revealing God, glorifying Jesus Christ, leading, comforting and guiding the believer: and convicting the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. We believe He is the Supernatural agent in regeneration and sanctification, indwelling each believer and sealing him.
We believe the evidence of the indwelling Holy Spirit in a believer is a consistent, consecrated life and walk demonstrating the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, meekness, faith, self-control.
We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired Word of God, complete and inerrant in the original writings of the 66 books. The Bible is the supreme and final authority for Christian faith and practice.
We believe man was created in the image of God as a unique creation of God, but fell from a state of righteousness through disobedience. Therefore, he is alienated from God, sinful by nature and unable to save himself. All men stand in need of the grace of God and the atonement provided by the death of Christ.
We believe that each man, although totally sinful by nature is of inestimable value to God. We believe that salvation from sin and its consequences is the gift of God brought to sinful man by grace and received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross. Justification by faith is the act by which a man is set free from the penalty of his sin and is accepted by God as righteous in His sight.
We believe that justification is the gift of God and is received by faith in Christ alone and not the result of works or human merit. The saving grace of God not only justifies it regenerates, whereby the individual is given new life in Jesus Christ. Sanctification is that renewal of our fallen nature by the Holy Spirit whereby we are not only delivered from guilt of sin, but are cleansed from its pollution and saved from its power.
We believe the Church to be the Body and Bride of Christ, composed of all who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. We believe that the Church is to gather together as local churches after the pattern of the New Testament doctrine and practice.
We believe that God performs the ministry of His Church through its members and has given by His Spirit gifts for the purpose of edifying the body of Christ.
We believe that Satan is a personal being, created the highest in rank of all angelic creatures and that he sinned through pride, thereby becoming the author of sin. He is the open and declared enemy of God and man. He is presently the great deceiver and powerful enemy of believers. The evil spirits are his messengers and through them he is active everywhere in the world. Although he has extensive knowledge and power, he is not omniscient, omnipotent or omnipresent. He shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire. membership We believe that Long Lane Church is a local expression of the Body of Christ and as such consider membership of the Church to be a serious undertaking. Church members should be committed to a Christian witness in the local community and actively subscribe to and support the following:
The 'Statement of Faith' as set out in the 'Our Beliefs'. The mission of the Church as set out in 'Our Vision'. Ordinances of the Communion Service and Baptism by immersion. The practice of the Church in its worship, prayer, teaching and outreach. Leadership and other organisational structures. Active Prayerful and financial support of the Church. The support and regular attendance to Church gatherings.
For those who seek to become members of Long Lane Church the following process has been adopted:
Two or more Elders interview individuals who seek membership. During the interview they explain the beliefs and practices of the Church including the responsibilities of membership and the Church leadership.
The prospective member are where appropriate asked to share their Christian testimony and details of previous Church membership.
The Eldership confirm membership and a time is arranged to publicly welcome new members to the Church, to pray for them and affirm the love and support of the Church. Church members are included on a Prayer Fellowship Guide encouraging prayer for one another on specific days of the month.
Annual General Meetings are held each autumn to review the work of the Church and to share concerns and comments of its members.
